Tikka Wood Stock – Premium Walnut & Laminate Rifle Stocks

Our wood stocks deliver accuracy equal to quality synthetic stocks when properly installed. The key is our aluminum pillar bedding system and free-floated barrel channel, which eliminate the flex and pressure points that can affect accuracy. Many competitive shooters use our laminate stocks specifically because they maintain consistency across temperature and humidity changes better than solid wood or some synthetic materials.

In practical terms, if your T3x shoots 1 MOA with the factory synthetic, you’ll see the same accuracy with our wood stocks. Some shooters report slight improvements due to the added weight dampening their natural wobble in offhand positions. The free-float design ensures barrel harmonics remain consistent as the barrel heats during strings of fire.

Our wood stocks are designed around factory Tikka specifications, so they work perfectly with the factory trigger and bottom metal. Many popular aftermarket triggers like Timney and TriggerTech are drop-in replacements that require no stock modification.

For aftermarket bottom metal and magazine systems, compatibility depends on the specific product. Most aftermarket bottom metal uses the factory inlet, but some systems like AICS conversions require additional machining to the stock. We recommend installing aftermarket components in factory synthetic stocks first to verify fit before ordering a wood stock, or contact us with your specific parts list for compatibility confirmation.

We use traditional oil finishing on our walnut stocks because it penetrates into the wood rather than forming a surface layer. This allows the natural grain and color to show through while still providing moisture protection. Oil finishes are also easy to maintain—you can refresh them with a simple wipe of boiled linseed oil whenever needed.

Polyurethane creates a hard plastic-like coating on the surface that’s more durable against scratches but gives a glossy artificial appearance. If that coating chips or wears through, moisture can get trapped under it and damage the wood. Oil finishes develop a beautiful patina with use and can be stripped and refinished by the owner using basic supplies, while poly finishes require professional removal. For hunters who appreciate natural materials and plan to keep a rifle for decades, oil finish is the superior choice.

No additional sealing is required—our stocks arrive ready to install and use. The walnut stocks have multiple coats of oil finish already applied, and the laminate stocks have a factory weather-resistant coating.

We do recommend wiping down your wood stock after each use to remove moisture, dirt, and skin oils. For walnut, apply a thin coat of boiled linseed oil or quality stock wax once or twice per hunting season to maintain the finish. This takes about 10 minutes—just wipe on a thin coat, let it soak in for 30 minutes, then buff off the excess. This simple maintenance will keep your stock protected and looking great for years.

Our T3x stocks are specifically inletted for the T3x action, which has minor dimensional differences from the original T3 design. The main difference is in the magazine well and trigger guard dimensions—the T3x uses a slightly different bottom metal configuration.

If you have an original T3 rifle, the stock will not drop in without modification. A competent gunsmith can adapt a T3x stock to fit a T3 action by relieving the magazine well and possibly adjusting the trigger guard inlet, but this requires careful fitting work. We recommend contacting us before ordering if you have a T3 rifle—we may have original T3 stocks available or can recommend a qualified smith for the adaptation work.

Our T3x walnut stocks weigh approximately 2.4 lbs, while the laminate stocks are about 2.6 lbs. The factory Tikka synthetic stock weighs roughly 1.8 lbs, so you’re adding 0.6-0.8 lbs to your overall rifle weight when you upgrade to wood.

For a complete T3x rifle with 24-inch barrel and scope, the swap typically increases total weight from about 8.5 lbs to 9.1-9.3 lbs. Many hunters find this additional weight improves offhand stability and reduces felt recoil without making the rifle cumbersome. The balance point also shifts slightly rearward, which some shooters prefer for carrying and shooting from field positions. If you’re building a lightweight mountain rifle, stick with synthetic—but for general hunting and precision shooting, the wood stock advantages outweigh the modest weight increase.
